State of Mind - Tryouts

Trying out the moods with colours.

Happy

Sad (1)
Somehow, this looked more like angry to me. LOL

Sad (2)
Same image as Happy, just that I made it black and white.

 Tree  :)

Tree with happy colours ~

Tree with happy colours and MORE colours!
Maybe I should've made it bigger. It looks like Christmas baubles now LOL.

Tree with Sad (1) background
Seriously this looks more like anger.

Tree with Sad (2) background.
This looks more sad to me, I think?

Illustration and Visual Narrative - State of Mind

Assignment 3 - State of Mind

You are to storyboard and make an Animatic from a set of the following psychological states : (there's a lot, but I chose Happy to Sad)

Outcome :
- Fully rendered (color) storyboard
- Must use correct transitional mechanisms
- A2 Presentation board
- Mounted on foam board
- 1 Animatic (min. 2, max. 4 minutes)

Initial research on abstract Sadness & Happiness.

Tried doing some sketches after that.

Was trying to do abstract, but then I figured that its abit too difficult.
Even I couldn't understand what I just sketched ._.

Then I got a very "cute" idea
(from thinking about my niece at home)

Its actually about a baby throwing tantrum when she didn't get what she wants. And because babies can't talk, all she could do was cry (practically what my niece does at home).

But Mr.Hafiz said its too straight forward.

Then I got another idea.

Inspired by this picture, actually.

So it starts of with this tree, very rich in colour, very lively.
And then these veins starts to climb, like a parasite, sucking the life out of the tree.
And slowly, the colours starts to fade. And soon enough, there isn't any colours left. All that's left behind is the tree trunk.
And the veins starts to tighten its grip, causing the trunk to crack.

Then, it snaps the tree into half.

Tryouts on different trees.

Digital Design - Movie Poster

The printed version :D

Somehow, it looked much better with the glossy-ness.
Though it was super difficult to take picture ._.

Feedback ; Mr.Hafiz said the anatomy was wrong, so he suggested that I cover (or try to) it with the hair. And put the title horizontally, along with a reflected effect on it.

And .. tadaa!

I couldn't really get Anerys (the black haired girl)'s hair right. It looked quite odd to me. But Syrena (the blondie)'s hair came out better. *sobs*

Movie Poster - Final

My final for the movie poster.

Synopsis

This is a story on Syrena (the blonde girl), a sweet, kindhearted girl who came from a really poor family and they could barely keep themselves well fed. She has this dream of living in a total opposite world, where her entire life would be upside down. One day, she stumbles upon an old proprietor of a bookstore, and he handed her an ancient storybook. It states that all her dreams would come true.
When she read it, she entered a world of her dreams - a reflection of her current reality. The poors are ruling over her country, and the riches were living in poverty. She also transformed into an alter ego of herself, Anerys (the black haired girl), who was the total opposite of what she was. She's living in a luxurious life, but she was also cruel and heartless. And most importantly, she has no family.

Would she choose to live as Syrena, or Anerys?

Digital Design - Movie Poster

The Brief
Your task is to design an (1) original movie poster and a movie title for (1) from below

Synopsis A
YOU are a Taylors Lakeside Campus student with superpowers, including supersonic flight, invulnerability, immortality, super-strength and etc. YOU use your powers to rescue people and stop criminals around KL city, your activities inadvertently cause millions of dollars in property damage due to your playful and skeptical attitude.

Synopsis  B
YOU come from a poor family, and spends most of your time dreaming. On one such occasion, you run into a bookshop where the old proprietor reveals an ancient story-book to you. Shortly after, you open up the book and begin reading it; you drawn into the mythical land of Fantasia

Synopsis C
When your country is invaded and your families are taken, YOU and your other teenagers friends band together to fight.
And so, based on all the synopsis, I chose to do B.
Fantasy is more like my kinda thing :)

And Mr.Adam said you can either take your own picture (the poster must have our face) in the photo studio, or illustrate yourself (which was limitless).

And I did take a picture last year, for my Superhero in Creative Thinking class in FID.

Did consider using it, but I changed my mind in the end.

So I went and look for inspirations for my illustration instead.
And I thought of doing a light and dark kind-of-concept.

And this time, I've decided to NOT be ambitious, so I'm going for the anime colouring style.
Which is why I decided to make it an anime poster.

Sketches

This wasn't really a light and dark concept.
The image just popped up in my head,
and I thought I'd draw it down in case I could work out on it later.

Was trying to show the light and dark through the eyes, and the "magical" book

Mr.Adam said it doesn't really look like a movie poster, so he suggested me to do a mirror image, which shows the light and dark characters.

*and he said not to take the mirror idea coz it'd be his idea instead

So I worked on that direction, and I came up with this final sketch.

Mirror Mirror - Final and Modification.

My final for the game DVD cover that I was working on.

Panel 1 - Where they first met.
I made it look like as if they were fighting when they first saw each other.
Abit like a love at first sight kinda thing.
Panel 2 - When they fell in love
The plan was to illustrate a sweet scene where it shows that they're in love.
Panel 3 - The "epic" ending
The vision I had in mind was that its the last battle they have with the cyborgs, which is why they're posing like that.

And after receiving some feedbacks, I've changed some parts of it.

Panel 1 - I changed the entire composition because Mr.Hafiz stated that the previous composition wasn't epic enough and it looks too flat. So I changed the angle of it and abit of the storyline, to make it look like Romeo is defending her. (Which is why he stood in front of her)

Panel 2 - I liked the previous composition, just that the feedback I received was it doesn't really show that they're in love because they're just hugging.

So, I added in rose petals as the background to show abit more of "lovey dovey"
And also, roses are a symbol of love.

Panel 3 - I was told that this composition was fine as well, just that Juliet's anatomy was abit off, so I adjusted abit.

And I changed the fonts for it as well, because the previous one doesn't really suit.

Mirror Mirror - Initial Idea and Progress

My initial idea for the assignment.

I wanted to do a graphic novel, but then Mr.Hafiz suggested me if I could try out something else.
Which was kinda true, because I really don't think I can handle it.
And by looking at the images I have, it looks more like a game to him.

Also, he suggested that someone was doing a DVD cover as well.
So, after some consideration, I changed my idea to a game DVD cover.

My sketch for the cyborgs.
I only did three poses because I didn't really want to focus on them.
Cyborgs - coloured.

The setting I had in mind was kind of a post-apocalypse world, so I Googled for some inspirations.

And some images of cyborgs.

I was trying to do a CG-styled colouring, but I realized that I was too ambitious.

So in the end, I changed it to manga-styled colouring.
Or an attempt for it, I'd say.

Some reference for the colouring style :
